The prize winners proved to be 41 rs J* Fox first ladies, and Ws Thus. Quinn (Wellington) second. The first gent’s prize was won by Mr J. Freitas, and the second by Mr G. Howe. The two first prizes and the second gent’s were again kindly donated by Mr W. Needs, and the second ladies’ by Mrs Thus. Heenan. In presenting the prizes the Secretary announced that the , committee had decided to hold a monster tournament on Wednesday, Sept. Ist. The first prizes consisting of two five pound tins of “Standout” tea have already been donated by their patron Mr IfcCalie, and for which ticket's w'ijl he in circulation in a day or two. After the supper adjournment the floor was cleared and dancing indulged in. The music was supplied by Misses E. Heenan, E. Reid, E. Hatch, and M. Giese. Mr Tlios. Rouse had charge of the floor.

A case of considerable interest to saw millers has been set down for hearing at the Warden’s Court, Ross, on Wednesday, August 2oflh The plaintiff is Mr D. J. S .Diedrichs and Qic defendants Messrs Stuart and Chapman Ltd. It is a suit for cancellation of a sawmill license and timber reservations, comprising 2000 acres of valuable nulling timber situate at Pukekura, near Lake lanthe. The grounds of complaint are that the defendant company has failed to erect a sawmill for the working of their areas, as required by the Mining Act and also failure to comply with the other conditions of the grant. Warden Maunsetl will preside over the Court. Messrs Lewis and Wells are appearing for the plaintiff and Messrs Park and Murdoch for the defendant company.
