A FIRM MARKET

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Messrg Matson and Co. report as follows regarding their stock sale yesterday:— Beef. —There was a medium yarding but ithe market was firm. Best bulIqcks sold to £4fi 10s, prime sorts £22 10s to £37; lighter and inferior £l4 10s to £2l 10s, Cows and heifers were about the same as last fortnight. gtoro calttlo, —A medium yarding and good demand for best sorts. 3-yr. steers sold to £lO 10s to £l2 7s 6d, 2-yr steers £tk7s 6d to £9 ss; ditto heifers £0 5s to £8 ss; yearlings £4 5s to £6 2$ 6d. j Store cows, fresh condition £5 5s to £9 10s.
Store sheep.—A medium yarding, mostly indifferent quality. The market was easier all round. Best S.M. cows sold to 39s'8d; wethers to 36s lOd; others 28s 6d to 34s 6d; hoggets to 29s 4d; Others 23s 6d to 26 10<T. Several lines of southern add travelled sheep were offered, but were hard to sell. Mutton.—A very large yarding and/ flip quality op t-hg whple was indiffer-\ ent and top many fpf butchers’ re-' qnirepjents, but graziers secured a large quantity of light and unfinished wethers. Best wethers sold to 665, prime 44s to 56s 6d, medium 39s 6d to 435; lighter and unfinished 35s to 38s 6d. Ewes sold in the same proportion.
