BUILDING OPERATIONS
LOCAL ADVISORY COMMITTEES
WELLINGTON, Aug. 16. The offer by representatives of the New Zealand Institute of Architects, the Builders’ Federation, and the Employers’ Federation, to assist in tho administration pf tho new building regulations has been approved by the President of the Board of Trade (the Hon E. P. Lee). The matter was thoroughly discussed by a deputation with members of the Board last week, and a practicable plan of co-operation was evolved.
Advisory committees, consisting of the Inspector of Factories for the district, aud representatives of the organisations of architects, builders, employers, and labour (one member for each interest) are to be set up. jn Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin and Invercargill. These committees will not he concerned with applications for permits to erect dwellings, essential farpi buildings, and buildings for local bodies and public works, but will give advice in regard to other applications. No powers will be vested in these committees. Their functions will he wholly advisory. They will express opinions to the Board of Trade on applications (except those mentioned), which have to lie first lodged with the local authorities. Each committee’s advisory sphere will be the territory covered by the inspector of factories for the district. The Board of Trade is confident that these committees’ local knowledge will be valuable in ensuring a satisfactory | working of the regulations. A similar 1 scheme of. local committees in eonnecI tion with other work of the Board has been justified by results.
