TAUSTRALIAN *fc N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION] McSWEENEY FOUND GUILTY. LONDON, August 16. Alderman McSweeney, (Lord Mayor of Cork), was courtmartialled, charged with seditious speech and with having in his possession a police code, also documents, the publication of which were calculated to cause disaffection. McSweeney looking ill, owing to hunger-striking, said:—“l am Lord Mayor and Chief Magistrate. 1 declare this court is illegal, and those participating in it are liable to arrest under the Irish Republican laws.” McSweeney was found guilty. Sentence was deferred.

TROUBLE IN DUBLIN. LONDON, August 16. On Saturday night there was some rioting in Dublin. It lasted from half past eight till 11. It is stated to have been as a reprisal for the death of a man named Farrell who was shot by tho soldiers in connection with a demonstration on the yOtb, in honour of Dr Mannix. Assaults on soldiers occurred in several parts of the city, parties of civilians waylaying them in the streets or raiding tramcars from which soldiers were dragged and thrown on the ground, or kicked. One was thrown i.nito the River Liffey, hut he was rescued.

The military had sent out patrols in armed cars. These restored order after firing several volleys. Parties pf soldiers returned later to the assault. They used their belts. One party formed, itself across Dame Street, apd then swept the road way clear with their belts. Another party of soldiers broke out J ],f their barracks, carrying entrenching tools, and with these they chased the crowd until ordered to desist. An prpipd attack was made on a military guard, in a castle yard. There were no casualties.
