THE MAORI WELCOME
Tho Hon Sir William Herries, K.C.M.G., Minister of Native Affairs, Wellington, has received the following letter
Sir, —I am directed by tJie Prince of Wales to ask you to convey to the Maoris of Arahura his very cordial thanks for the touching address of wel- ' come which they presented to him just before he left Hokitika on May 13th. | He has read the address with deep ap--1 preciation, and would like to renew the expression of his gratitude for the beautiful gift presented to him. He knows well that the Maori people are firm in their loyalty to His Majesty the King, and lie was ablejto see for himself how well they served in the giyat war. He thanks the Maoris of Arahura for their good wishes, and can assure them that j lie will always have their interests and I welfare closely at . heart. —I am, your obedient servant, (Sgd.) G. W. M.
