The Council met at 8 p.m
Fourteen days leave of absence, owing to sickness was granted Hon. M. Cohen.
Lyttelton Harbour Loan Bill, Napier Harbour Loan Empowering Bill, and Ocean Beach Public Domain Bill were received from tho House, read a lijst time, and referred to the Local Bills Committee. Hawke’s Bay rivers Amendment Mill was read a second time and referred to the joint committee on Bills. Hon McGregor, gave notice of the Law Amendment Bill. Tho Council rose at 8.6 p.m.
THE HOUSE.
The House met at 2.30 p.m. The Elective “Executive Bill ini reduced by Mr Statham was read a first time. After the formal business was disposed of, the House went into committee of supply for the purpose of further •ousidering ffcfi general estimates. The first vote taken was Post and Telegraph Department, £2,402,737. Holland moved the reduction of vote uy £1 as a protest against raising postal and telegraph charges without hist consulting Parliament. After a discussion lasting the whole afternoon, the Amendment was defeated by 54 to 6. Col. Mitchell moved a reduction ol £1 as a protest against the increased telephone chargo of 5s per i mile of line from the Central Office. The Amendment was lost by 39 to 18. lie vote was then passed. Public Buildings etc. £9,533 and Native Department, £20,474 were also passed. , The House rose at 11.30 p.m.
