According to a Gazetto notice the Government has fixed the maximum retail prices of petrol at Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin as follows: For class A, at 32/6 per ease, daas B 27/6 per case; at Napier and Timara, 33/- and 28/-; at Wanganui, New Plymouth and Gisborne, 35/- and 30/-, and at Invercargill 34/- and 29/6 BOY IN TROUBLE. The Warehouse Employees Union passed a resolution that a conference of Trades Unions, Labour and kindred organisations be held at an early date for the purpose of instituting a system of boycott on certain commodities with a view of affecting a reduction on the cost of living.

OIL BORING. WELLINGTON, Aug. 12. Help for the development of oil-bor-ing in the Hawke’s By province was sought by a deputation to the Prime Minister.* The deputation comprised Messrs Mitchell (Chairman of Directors), Redpatch and Andrews, representing the Waipatiki Oil Wells Company. They askod for a geological report and alsco a subsidy for the bore at the well which is now down 3660 feet. There has been no trouble with the water. Mr Massey promised to send an officer of the Geological Department to report and will place the matter of a subsidy before Parliament.
