Tho avenue promises to be a notable feature of the southern entrance by road to Greymouth.
The public patronising Pollard’s Pictures last evening were rewarded with a fine English play, “The Passing of the Third Floor Back.” This well-known morality play was exceedingly welldone in every detail, and an impression of the fine standard British cinema productions are attaining. The exchange of timber between New Zealand and New South Wales was outlined by Mr R. Nairn on Saturday night, before the Fruitgrowers’ Association. He said that the demand ioi soft timber was so great in Australia that the imports from New Zealand into New South Wales were valued at from £300,000 to £400,000 annually, while New South Wales sent in return hard woods valued at about £150,000. A shipment of pinus insignis, the value of which had been discounted in New Zealand, bad been welcomed in Australia, and the growing demand for it would add greatly to the value of New Zealand properties carrying plantations of it,' and tb e cost of the timber was bound to increase.
