The League football match between the visiting English team and West Coast took place yesterday in showery weather, the Englishmen winning by 55 to 13. The visitors had all the best of tho game, and scored regularly by splendid exhibition against the weak opposition. . SOUTH ISLAND BEATEN. PALMERSTON NORTH, August 11. In the representative Rugby match, Manawatu defeated the South Island country team by 22 points to 8 to-day. The play was ragged, and was mostly conlined to the forwards. Manawatu wore superior in the forward division. They also used the backs to greater advantage. For the South Island O’Brien kicked a penalty goal, and Falconer scored, Nelson converting.

New Zealand’s final contest against the Metropolitan team was a runaway affair, the visitors winning by 81 points to 5. The local team were without their most prominent players and as helpless as schoolboys before the Black invasion. Shortly after the commencement, Hingst gathered up near the touch and skirting past Badeley crossed over, Mingay converting. From this out New Zealand initiated a succession Of passing movements, which in. variably ended in a score. The locals’ defence' was the feeblest imaginable. Tries were scored bv the following: Baird (3), Badeley (3), Tilyard, Jacobs, Mac Lean, Moffat 12), Storey, Wiison, Roberts, Duncan and West. Goals were scored by Roberts (5), Motfat (2), Baird, Brown, Tilyard, West and Storey one each. New Zealand have played seven matches altogether, scoring 266 points against 77.
