POLLARD’S PICTURES.
TO-NIGHT 1 TO-NIGHT! “Magda” is one of t]io best known modern dramas, and, in tlio title role, Cliira Kimball Young gives one of 'the best performances of her career. Her calm, statuesque beauty is especially suited to the part of the great diva—a role made famous ,by Bernhardt and Duse on the legitimate stage, ft is a strange fact that prior to becoming a motion picture star, Clara Kimball 1 oung was a grand opera star, and owing to the loss of her voice was attracted to the -shadow stage. Her last opera role was “Carmen.” This will easily rank as Miss Young’s best periormance. Never has she seemed so lovely as in this picture—never has she seemed so beautifully dramatic—never has her art shown to such brilliant advantage. Through the kindness of a wealthy aunt, Magda was enabled to study singing. While studying, she met and 101 lin love with an artist from her own town. They were secretoly married, and some time after, Magda made the terrifying discovery that the marriage was only a ruse, and she was left penniless with a child to support. Through struggles and tribulation she slowly climbed the ladder of fame. The invitation to attend an honoured guest the musical festival in her own town. Recognition and a home-coming, then again her father’s discovery:“l know "what you are— Fame cannot blind me to your disgraceful life—you—you—! Her psnedo husband, now a councillor, calls to ask her hand, on- conditions which Magda cannot accept. Her father, frenzied with rage, seeks to avenge the honour of his house, and th e excitement kills him. The final scene shows Magda with her girlhood lover looking to the future for happiness long deferred. The 18th episode of “The Man of Might” wil also be screened.
McLEAN’S PICTURES. FRIDAY’S DISPLAY. Mr McLean presents on Friday the wondrous beauty, Elsie Ferguson, in a new Paramount, entitled “His Parisian Wife.” His parents said that his newly! found wife was a questionable person because she came from “naughty” Paris. She helped to confirm this opinion when she appeared in a rather extremo gown, but there was nothing questionable about her except her judgment in accepting his parents at their solf-assessed value. Tile time came though. You can always leave it to Elsie Ferguson to furnish a smashing climax. There’s one in “His Parisian Wife” that you ought to see. The serial “The Grey Seal” will also lie continued.
