Tlu* following pnrngraph from* the ’Samoan Times’ should lie pf interest to newspaper proprietors in New Zealand at the. present time:—“lt is not commonly known fciiat saimy,i possesses a tree knpwii hy thp native name Salago, which grows in considerable quantity ju opr hush, and which is said to possess the .finest wood pulp for papermaking. The trees grow very rapidly. During the past week Mr M’Kenzie, of Tuasivi, Savnii, who also has a small plantation near 4pia, showed us a splendid sample of this wood pulp, which we j intend to forward to New Zealand for examination. At the present time there is an acute shortages pf newspaper throughout the world. A report on tlie samplp in our possession will he awaited with interest.” Systematic inquiries are being made on behalf of tlie New Zealand newspapers as to the cost of erecting a paper mill in one ,»r other of the wooded regions of the West Coast,* with tin* view to producing a supply of printing paper sufficient for the requirements of the Dominion, but if an adequate supply, or wood pulp -Could be relied on from Samoa the capital expenditure on the erection of machinery in New Zealand would be a good deal lessened, and the labor difficulty in cutting down and preparing tb.o pulping timber avoided.
Into the crowded streets I go, Wending my way each day. To watch the throng pass to and fro, And hear what people say. The sporty sort just talk of sport, Some talk of literature; But the principal thought of the sensible sort Is of Woods’ Great Poppermint Cure.
