In replying to the Westland deputation. on Friday asking for the extension of the railway beyond Ross, Mr Coates, Minister of Public Works, said the cost of building the railway into the far south would he terrific, there being heavy bridging to do, but lie might agree to cross the Mikonui river. For that section of the railway lie thought the request was a reasonable one.
