* AUSTRALIAN & N.Z. CAJi'j.4 ASSOCIATION j THE PRINCE IN QUEENSLAND. SYDNEY, July 26. The Prince of Wales arrived at Waflange rra, on the Queensland border, and was; formally welcomed by the LieutGovernor and Hon. Filielly, Secretary for Railways. The reception was ominously quiet, the demeanor of the crowd furnishing a remarkable contrast to tlie welcomes tendered in other States. This was the only occasion oil which the Prince was ont cheered, and this was probably due to the fact that only officials were present, the reception by soldiers and the children’* display being postponed until the Prince’s return next week. BOYCOTT OF P. AND O. SYDNEY, July 26. [n view of a boycott of the Peninsmar and Oriental Company, having arisen out of Father Jerger’s deportation, the Company is now asking the Federal Government for compensation for any loss incurred. The wharf labourers here have refused to work the P. amd 0. steamer Berrima today. They ere replaced by some men from the Non-Union Shipping Labour Bureau. In the event of the boycott continuing at the other ports, the company’s steamers will load sufficient coal at Sydney to carry the vessels to Colombo. It is claimed tlie deportation is exciting little interest in trades union circles n Sydney,- some officials expressing the opinion that they have enough troubles of their own without starting another stampede from work.
