WOMEN’S 'BENEVOLENT COMMITTEE.

At tho meeting of the Charitable Aid Board last, evening it was reported that a Women’s Benevolent Committee had liccn set up, Airs G. A .Wood, being Chairwoman and Mrs Chesney Hon Secretary. Various committees were formed for the work of- the branch, inciuding a sub-committee to arrange a function about Christmas time to raise funds for tlio war memorial wing of the hospital.'

Mesdames Wood, Fraser, Bridgman, Hatch, Galbraith, and Chesney attended as a deputation to tbo Board meeting, and were welcomed by tho Chairman, Mr Wild, who said the Board was pleased to have so useful a committee at its disposal. He suggested the Secretary of the Committee should be appointed the Board’s Benevolent Officer, and act in an honorary capacity. It was agreed Airs Chesney be appointed accordingly. Mr Breeze said he would like to see lady members on the Board, and the part and parcel of the Board. Tho Chairman said this \s;as a matter for the at the next general election by the local bodies. It was resolved that the Women’s Committee report monthly to tho Board. The Committee was empowered to grant up to £5 in any urgent eases arising between meetings. The uadies were thanked for their attendance and assistance offered to the Board, and withdrew.
