HAVE EW PASSED THROUSH ARMAGEDDON?

(Americaa Paper,} Apuigeddon—mentioned in Revelation —is lull of mystery. Runyan made much of it, and Roosevelt wound up his great speech before thy Progressive convention in 19T2 with—‘.‘We. stand at Armageddon, and we battle for the Lord.” The meaning of this mystic name is still obscur.e. A religious cult called “Bible have devoted themselves, tu the interpretation of prophecy, especially of Revelation. They had made, out that Armageddon would come as a world war, and they quoted passages to. prove that after that there would bn. another and more terribly conflict of nations and peoples. Other Bible students believe that the Beast in the 13h chapter of Revelation, “. having seven heads and ten horns, and upon the horns ten crowns,” was none other th.'in William the Se.copd, kaiser of Geymqny, If Is not in our province to interpret Scripture, hut there are many “side lights from profane history ” which seem to confirm this. If M Willy Number Two ” was tbe Beast, who was the Dragon “ which gave power unto the Beast,” so that they “worshipped the Dragon ” that “ gave him his power, and his seat and great authority ” —but Bismarck?

And who, forsooth, are they who “ worshipped tbq Dragon which gave power, unto tin-. Beast aud—worshiped j.he Beast, saying “■ Who is lilfe u n tfl tile Beast? "Who is able tq mn]io war with him ? ’ h,ut fho people of Germany. Could further characterisation ot the kaiser he more pointed than this:— “ And there was given unto him a ipquth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months. , . And it wan given unto him to make war with the saints and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.” We repeat that we are “neither a prophet nor the son of a prophet,” but the signs of the times point to a- terrific upheaval yet to come. Thu yp.ls,hi<viki in Russia ayd agoing other peoples; tlie state uf unrest and threatened revolution in Germany ; the possible coalition of the powers of darkness—the Central Powers, Turkey and—who knows yet what Japan will do? Whey the people of Japan and China realise —apd flniy are learning—that majorities rule, the so-called ‘‘Yellow Peril” will become a world-wide epidemic, for the yellow races are still ill t'H‘ fUajqrity of all thp peoples of the world. Ip such U crisis the peoples of Europe and Asia will have about as much regard for the Fourteen Points as the Senate seems to have for the League of Nations with Article Ten staring America, in the face. The thing to do and it looks more and more imperative, more and more necessary—yea, absolutely essential to the life of the world and the continuation of white civilisation —is for the English-speak-ing race to “take up the White Alan’s Burden” not only against, but for the sake of the

“New caught, sullen peoples Half devil and half child.” To specialize the English-speaking race is nothing against the Germans, french, Italians, Spanish, or any other peoples. It is only another way of saying “Blood is thicker than water.” To revert once more toTfevelation — it is to he hoped, for the sake of the German people and thpfr Huns —-bedeviled and Kultur-riddou though they lie—that they are not referred to in this passage in the Aposoalypse: “Neither repented they of their murders, nor of thuir seorceries, nor of their fornications, nor of their thefts.” It is assuring to note that Revelation

gives a quite circumstantial account of the consignment of the Beast to the Bottomless Pit. Far bo it from us to attempt to locate that pit— but wo shrewdly surmise that it is neither Amerongon nor Doom—nor any other castle in the Netherlands. Wo rather suspect that the English speaking nations will hear a strong hand in landing William Hohenzollern in that place of last resort, somewhat as Britain transported Napoleon Bonaparte to St Helena.
