Yachting experts have pointed out that the Shamrock which was expected to lie a good sailer in a heavy wind and the Resolute the better boat in a light wind, demonstrated ability to sail in both kinds of weather. . The Shamrock sailed to victory in the second race in the lightest breeze, while the Resolute won in a twelve knot breeze showing remarkable speed, despite the Shamrock’s go rater spread of canvas. Sir Thomas Lipton, in a statement said the Resolute’s victory means we have a good fight on your .hands which ‘is just what I wanted.
