(By Electric Telegraph—Cop., ight.l THE THIRD RACE. WIN FOR AMERICA YACHT. NEW YORK, July 21. The Resolute won the third race. The win was due to the time allowance, which was seGen minutes and one second. Both vessels finished in the samo lapse of time. Thus the win on the time allowance. FURTHER DETAILS. NEW YORK, July 21. For the third rado fir the America Cup the course was one of thirty miles. There was a 15-mile beat to windward, 1 and 15-mile run .to borne. The wind j was light and variable, coming out of the south-south-east. TMe. Shamrock started at 1.0.22 p.m. and the Resolute at 1.0.41 p.m. PARTICULARS OfItIIRD RACE. (Received this day at 0.30 a.m.) ; NEW YORK, July 21. j At 1.10, l>oth changed to the port 1 tack, and hauled towards the Jersey | shore, the Resolute footing faster. j At 1.40, she was three-eighths of a mile ahead, but at 1.58 had dropped to two hundred ynrds. The wind was six knots. The yachts close in shore made a pretty thrash to windward, heeling j over in the strengthening wind, the Shamrock’s flat bow pounding the rolling sen. At 2.15, the Resolute was leading by a quarter of a mile, and at 2.45'by ,

The wind was seven to eight miles. She reached the mark at 3.21.31, and the Shamrock at' 3.23.6. At 3.35 the Resolute was half a mile ahead, and ten miles from the finish at 4.15 she was three hundred ahead.

At 4.48, the wind holding well, the Resolute was lending by a quarter of a mile.

At 4.55, a mile from the finish, the Shamrock had nearly caught the Resolute, and half a. mile from the finish did so and crossed the line first.

She crossed at 5.3.28, and the Resolute nineteen seconds lator, equalling the difference in the starting times, and making a tie on the actual time of 4.3.6, the Resolute winning by the time allowance of seven minutes one second. Mr Massey’s congratulations to Sir Thomas Lipton have been received.

The destination of the America Cup, according to an authority on yachting, is decided by the best three out.of five races. It may not be necessary to sail the five raecs, as Resolute, with two in, may win the next and thus win outright. Nearly nil the previous contests were won by the Cup defender with three straight, wins.
