Howell, Dee, Cutbush, Kerr, Toohev, Berry Conning and Meenan (secretary). The minutes were eonlirmed and outward correspondence approved. J N \YA l? D CORHE3PON DENCE. From West Coast Rugby Union, Greyasking for Clubs’ suhscriptiifts to be sent on, and that a representative jersey be obtained from a holder.—Deceived. The chairman stated that the subscriptions (six clubs at £1 Is each) had been duly forwarded, it was resolved to ask the Union to allow a return of half the Ciub fees of the Southern Division for the carrying on of the Union, on the motion of .Messrs 7). Dowell and Cutbush. From Hokitika School Committee, thanking Southern Division for grant of half the receipts of takings on Cass Square on the occasion of the Schools’ •match and Senior game, the Schools’ share being £5 10s, which would assist the lads in the sport.—Received. • REPORTS. From I. Steele, referee in Saturday’s match on Cass Square, reporting that two men (Cutbush and Johnsen) one of each-team had a slight difference near the end of the game, which had resulted in his ordering both off the field, though he could not say who was to blame.—Received and considered. There was considerable discussion over what action should be taken. After considerable debate, in which several members took a far more serious view of the affair than appeared in the referee’s report, it was oesolvecl to order both offenders to stand down for a week, and that a warning be given that any future misbehaviour would not be tolerated, and that the penalty inflicted would be substantially heavier.
The Secretary reported- for the up to the close of the first round that the receipts .had totalled £4O 9s 6d, and expenditure £l9 7s 2d, leaving a credit balance in hand of £2l 2s 4d.—Received and considered highly satisfactory, the Secretary being complimented on the financial position. Mr Berry was appointed auditor. Mr Dee handed in a statement of the Secretary of the Hokitika Football which was merged into the Southern Division when the latter was farmed, showing receipts £9 lfis Bd, payments £3 7s 2d, and cash iti hand (handed in) £(> 9s 2d.—Received. After some discussion, it was resolved to obtain further particulars as to other receipts and liabilities. Some accounts, certified to, were passed for payment.
It was stated that the junior match— Excelsiors v. Kiwis—would take place on Saturday as arranged. Mr H. Harker will be the referee.
In connection with the match against Greymouth on Saturday, the appointment of Mr Irving as captain was approved. Mr D. Dee was appointed manager, and Mr D. Dowell touch-line judge, and it was resolved to take all the emergencies selected to Greymouth. Arrangements were made for jerseys and other details to be attended to. Mr Berry kindly promised to supply a flag for the touch-line judge and Division badges. It was resolved that a sub-committee consisting of Messrs Lawn, D. Dowell and the secretary, draw up a list of fixtures for the second round, to commence on Saturday week, July 31st.. Mr Lawn kindly promised to supply copies of the fixtures, when drawn up, for the use of Club members. The offer was accepted with thanks. After several routine matters had been dealt with, the meeting closed at 9 p.m.
N.Z. RUGBY TEAM. (Received this day at 8 a.m.) SYDNEY, July 22 The New Zealand footballers have arrived and are fit and keen. The first match takes place on Saturday. The team selected is—O’Brien, Steele, Alga r, Storey, Roberts, Tilyard, Brown, Jacobs, Carroll, Duncan, Moffit, West, Baird, Beilis, Donald. They play New' South Wales on the 24th and 31st July and 2nd August; and Northern Rivers at Taree on 28th July.
