A PROTEST. MAR,TON, July 20. Tho Murtou Chamber of Commerce yesterday unanimously resolved: “That, this Chamber view with alarm that the Members of Parliament Contemplate legislation making a distinction between private individuals and legisla • tors by exempting members’ honorarium from income tax.”-' It was generally considered that very serious objections must be taken against any ittempt by legislation to pass laws to which they themselves will not bo subject.
CHILD WELFARE CONFERENCE , WELLINGTON, July 20.
, The sixth general conference of the Royal New Zealand Society for Ji i health of women and children opened to day. Hon. Mr Parr (Minister of. Public Health and Education) announced his intention to launch a Department of Child Welfare. He said ho had asked Mr Massey to relieve T)r Trilby King from liis present work to allow him to become Director of the new Department. The decision rested with the Prime Minister.
