FOOTBALL.
The team selected to represent the Southern Division against the Grey representatives on Saturday next at Grey mouth is a fairly representative one of the district, and with lair luck should give a good exhibition against tile northerners. The backs are a fairly
strong combination, and if they get possession of the ball from the serums, should prove their metal. The threequarter line is one of groat possibilities. Belli wings are fast, but neither have had the proper opportunities in the club games. The centre, on his play is undoubtedly ibe star of the backs. He plays a fine liead.y game, passes well and freely, and will give plenty of opportunities to his wings if those closer in to tin- serum get the ball out properly. In the live-eighth lino, Irving and Duncraft are a pair who have played well together, and the captain’s knowledge of-the game should prove of decided assistance. At half, M. Wallace should prove a sound selection, if he does not try to get over the ground, instead of letting the ball out quickly. The fullback played himself into the team two Saturday’s ago, but last Saturday’s display was not so striking. The forwards are a more difficult problem (or selection, and there are many omissions of players with equally good records for selection. The main question will be want of condition. If the players are in good fettle they should bo able to make their opponents work for every score they get, though the northerners have the distinct advantage of having had some games together, and are a fast, active combination.
