Three men. waving a red'flag attempted to hold, up an express train at Adavoyle crossing, between Dublin and Rel. fast. Tho driver suspecting an attackcontinued at full speed, and dashed - through the gates which were smashed to .matchwood. Tho train was undam- ! aged. It. was subsequently discovered [ that over one hundred raiders were waiting in the vicinity. Masked, armed men ambushed .a police patrol at Lnnesborough near Longford, and shot a constable dead. A companion lay behind the corpse firing, until his ammunition was exhausted, when ho wan compelled to surrender. GENERAL LUCAS. (Received this'day at 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, July 16.
At n. meeting of the Irish Vigilance Council, London, ,tho President said as soon as posible, General > Lucas would have companions. General Lucas could have his freedom if he pledged his word not to disclose the whereabouts of his prison, but to his honour, General Lucas had refused.
