An energetic movement is afoot to promote increased trade between Italy and Australia. Italian industries greatly need raw materials and the country requires a heavy supply of foodstuffs. A largo part of south, centra], and eastern Europe will also draw supplies through Italian ports. Italian shipping lines are already linking up Australia with Italy. Banking, industrial and commercial interests of Italy- are seeking to form a commerce organisation to develop trade with. Australia. Austria is prepared to transact fifty per cent, of her trade through Trieste. A similar organisation is being formed to stimulate trade between Canada and Italy, and is also juquirng regarding the pros pects of obtaining Australian coal, as efforts to secure American are not promising.
