The New York “American” inter, viewed Vaughan, Archbishop Mannix’s secretary who lias arrived here. Vaugn. an said before the Ventura left Honolulu the Band played the Medley. It was later said the band played the Star Spangled Banner, hut Dr Mannix who had heard that anthem only onco be fore did not recognise it,-^if he indeed had heard it, during the confusion. A few days before, while the Ventura was at sea, the Star Spangled Banner was played by the ship’s band -\t dinner. - The Archbishop stood as soon as I told him what air it was. I had heard it when the American fleet visited Australia, but we do not often hear it in bur land. It is simply a form of British propaganda intended to dis credit him, in this country.
