At a conference held~iasf week, a-t Wei. lington it was resolved to jpecojnjnciuJ the formation of an organisation to he called the New Zealand Manufacturers Association, membership to be open lfy; nil engaged or interested in industrial pursues, employers and •employ ed alike. The four military districts of the Dominion will form the districts of the Association—Auckland,' Wejlingto»j, Canterbury, aijd Otago-Soutbland; each district committee will be empowered to establish subJjmiches within its territory with the consent of the j executive of the Association. Fpom these it 1 appeared that thorp arc many n,ew industries which can be introduced into Now Zealand with very great profit t.o its people, Tlie scarcity of housing accommodation was koenly discussed, but it was thought that the action if the Board of Trade in insisting that ,tlie most essential building work should be done first w.oukl relieve the pressure which, its present, is undoubtedly very great. The question ,of .holding exhibitions was fully discussed, f,h.g unanimous (opinion 'being that the giro at value of exhibitions was their educative
effect, especially upon the younger generation, For this reason ijb was admitted that no opportunity should ho lost of exhibiting all classes of manufactured goods in all parts of the Dominion, Whenever occasion offered.
