Through the foundering of a barge containing 446 snoop near Aubrey Island, in Vvliangnrei harbour, considerable loss was sustained by the Wliangarci Freezing Company. The barge was being towed to tlie freezing works by the Company’s launch. Rough weather caused the barge to leak, take in water, and she finally capsized, A number of sheep wore rescued, and others managed to swim ashore, but only 70 were saved out of the whole consignment.
In spite of the return of most of the Canterbury teachers who went on active service, the shortage of teachers, states the chairman of the Canterbury Education Board in ,his annual report, is still acute. He said lie was prepared to marry her. The Magistrate, however, ordered her tp be detained in the Army Home. On hearing the sentence Wong Yen, who was sitting down, fell forward on bis face in a faint, nnu tlie girl immediately, rushed forward to his assistance.
