The annual balance sheet of the Hokitika. Savings Bank is published in this issue. It discloses another very
successful position, the transactions for the year concluded on March 31st having shown a substantial increase in the turnover as compared with the previous year, which had also shown a satisfactory increase on the year before. During the year £14,241 was invested on mortgage, as against £BB2I for the previous year, while the amounts repaid were £9834 and £5438 'Dio bank 'increased its investments in War, bonds and debentures by £1,090 making the total £20,000. The deposits by depositors for the year showed the substantial sum of £47,953, as against £40,521 for the previous year, while there were repaid depositors £43,784, as compared with £38,695 for the year before. Depositors now numbering 1,210 have £85,300 to their credit, "which is an average credit of about £7O 10s. an increase of nearly £2 10s. per depositor for the year. The statement of assets and liabilities shows a surplus of £14,620. Of the £85,300 due to depositors, over £61,000 are practically in liquid securities, while against the balance of £24.000 there is £48,255 invested on mortgage The hank, thanks to the ver y _ careful management that has distinguished it since its inauguration, stands in a vcy sectire position which reflects every credit on its management. It is .an institution in which the town and district can take a purdonablepride.
