OUR TIMBER WEALTH,
“The forests lands of South Westland are notable for the quality of their crop,” (says the Hokitika. “Guardian”.) “Some of the finest rimu. and totara areas in New Zealand are to be found in the southern district. There is a 1 variety of excellent timber also embracing silver and"white pine, besides matai. It is not an extravagant estimate to say that great tracts of the country will yield 30,000 feet to the acre. In many cases, the length of the bole and the number of trees to the acre proclaim the majesty of this forest country—which it might well be in preference to mere bush land'.’’ 1 A large area of forest near the port of Okarito, South Westland—an area of 10,000 acres—is to be opened up in the near future by The Great Western Timber Company, Ltd., which is now being formed with a capital of £125,000. Mr H. Gladstone Hill is managing director. Full particulars of the splendid investment thus offered are given in a. booklet entitled “New Zealand Monarchs of the Forest.” This publication, together with prospectus and application forms, is obtainable from auy branch of the Bank of New Zealand, or from Messrs Frank Graham and Son, Christchurch, or M. Houston, Hokitika.?
