The gas strike deadlock continues. The strikers say they will take no action until a reply is received from the Premier Mr Lawson, to tho proposal for a round the table conference. Coal importers declare there is a couj shortage in Victoria more serious now than at any period since the Maritime strike. EXHUMING A BODY. SYDNEY, July 8. The body of Annie Birkett is shortly to be exhumed. FEDERAL LOAN . (Received this day at 11.30 a.m.) MELBOURNE,-. July 7. Mr Cook announced that subscribers to-the new loan will have the privilege of converting face value equal the amount of stock held on previous loans. Inquiries were made in London as' to whether the loan was floatable, showed that owing to the very large amounts] invested in (industrial, and commercial ventures, lenders were asking a rate making it practically prohibitive for the Commonwealth to borrow there.
