BRITISH CABINET
CAMPAIGN- AGAINST CHAMBERLAIN. - l, v Electric Telegraph—-Co,.*/' i> - (Received this day' nt 12.26 i,.m) LONDON, July 4. Concerning the campaign being carried on by the Northclilt'e newspapers and business organisations to secure Hon Chamberlain’s resignation on the ground that the Budget taxation, especially the increase in excess profits duty, is crippling a revival of industry, it culminated on the eve of the resumption of the Commons debate, on the Finance Bill, in the definite announcement by several newspapers that Air Chamberlain had resigned, and that Mr Worthington Evans was succeeding him. Hon Chamberlain authorises the denial of the announcement.
The “Central News” authoritatively stated that Cabinet is supporting Mr Chamberlain’s uncompromising attitude on tlio Budget'taxation. There will be no important concessions. If the Commons rejects tlio proposals ol the 1* inancc Bill, the political consequences will be far more serious than the removal ol ill* Chamberlain, as Cabinet will stand or fall by him.
