AUCKLAND, July 2. The Government’s sugar scheme was completed to-day and will come into operation immediately. The agree* ment between the Colonial Sugar Refining Coy, and the Government, whereby tho latter will control the distribution of all sugar manufactured in the Dominion was signed on Thursday. As previously announced the Government I has purchased the whole output of raw sugar from Fiji and this will be refined and distributed on its "behalf by t]ie Colonial Sugar Refining Company. Negotiations have been completed by fhe Chairman of the Board of Trade (Mr G. W. McDonald). Be stated this evening that the announcement regarding the prices and scheme of distribution will be made by the Minister

for Industries and Commerce as --oon as the Government has had the opportunity to consider the ’final arrangements with the Sugar Co. Mr Me* Donald' stated that tho prices fixed covered all the Government's expenses

and the scheme was not being subsidised. There were to be no- rebates on Customs dues.

The Government was running this scheme 4s a commercial proposition and it was expected that it would bp a

payable venture. / It is understood the new prices will oo»o into operation on Monday, and that as forecasted by the Prime Minister, tlie retail price will be 6d per lb. in the chief centres. The first cargo of Government sugar has arrived from Fiji and will be immediately refined and passed into consumption. stocks of raw and refined sugar belonging to Hie Sugar Company having been completely exhausted.
