i Another enjoyable evening was spent at St. Mary’s Club Mounts on WednosGay evening, when there was a good attendance for the euchre tournament and dance. The first ladies’ prize was won b.v Mrs J. McVicar (kindly donated by ' .Mr A. W. Yarrall), and the second ladies’ prize was won by Miss Rochford The first gent’s prize (donated by Mrs J. Cameron) went to Mr Johnston, and the second to Mr D. Little. The music for tlie dance was supplied by Miss O. I freeze, and Mr T. lleenan had charge of the floor. Owing to a counter attraction next week the committee have de
cided to hold their tournament on Tuesday, instead of Wednesday evening. At Addington Stock sales on Wednesday there was a medium entry of fat pigs, a good demand being experienced. Values were as under : —(Choppers, £7 to £10; baconcrs, £5 10s to £6 10s; extra heavy baconers, £7 10s to £8 12s; average price per lb. 10R1 to lid. Light porkers, £3 15s to £4 10s; heavy pork, era, £5 to £5 10s; average price per lb. Is Id to Is 2d. A sharp advance in tipvalue of store pigs was experienced, despite the fact that there was a good entry. Prices rose from 10s to 14s per head on stores, with a corresponding increase upon weaners. Values were as follows :—Large stores, £3 12s to £4 os; medium stores, £2 10s to £3 ss;. small stores £1 18s to £2 8s; weaners, 19s to £1 10s. A meeting of the Independent members of the House of Representatives was held during the week-end, at Wellington, and it is understood that, while differing on many political questions, they have nevertheless agreed to a common course of action with a view to making their influence felt during the session. It is believed that they will strongly support Mr C. E. Statham's elective Government resolution. The members who stood as Independents at the general election are Messrs W. D. Lynsar (Gisborne), G, R. Mitchell (Wellington South), S. G. Smith, Independent Labour (Taranaki) J. Craigie (formerly Liberal M.P., Timaru), R. Kellett (Independent Liberal, Dunedin North), W. I). Stewart (formerly Reform M.P., Dunedin West) C. E. Stathain, (Independent Reformer, Dunedin Central), and A. Hamilton (Independent Reformer, Wallace).
