Regulations come into ef- • feef to-morrow. j “Development work” for the f>uy- i poses of the regulations includes an,y , new construction, maintenance, or.' re I pair work of any nature whatsoever in which it is proposed that any cement, bricks ,or timber shall he used, tho o.s- . timated total completed cost of which exceeds £2OO, save and except (a) tlie , formation, construction, or repair of any road, bridge, railway, or tramway, out of moneys appropriated to such work by Parliament, or (h) the main- j tenanco of/any works occupied exclu- j sivcly in the production of cement, i bricks, or timber. j After the coming into effect of the j regulations, it is set forth that it shall j not be lawful for any person to com- I menee any development work, except in , pursuance -of a permit issued by. the : Board of Trade. Works, in the con- j struction of which cement, bricks, or ; timber have been actually used prior to ; the coming into force of tho regula- j tions, however, shall be deemed to lie ; works in course of construction, and for j the space of two months from the date j of the gazetting of these regulations, | shall be deemed to he development j works for which a permit has been is- j sued, and is in force unless by. notice j given by the Board of Trade | to the person for whom the work is be. ; ing done that it has been directed that , tiie work shall be. discontinued. AIJ such works shall after the expiry of two months or later notice to discon- j tinue, he deemed to be development ( works in respect of which no permit has j been issued. Unless the person f° r | whom the work is being done has applied for and obtained from the Board | of Trade an authority in writing to c on- j tinue the works, it is provided that no | person shall deliver any cement, bricks, * or timber for use or any development , work for which a permit has not been obtained, and.it is further provided that any permit may make conditions as to . the quantities of materials to he sup- j Power is given to tho Board of Trade to delegate its authority to issue permits to the local authority, and the Board is also authorised to appoint srom time to time a Committee of Advice on matters relating to the administration . of the regulations.

Finally tho Board lias power to require a manufacturers or distributors to supply a specified quantity of content, bricks ,or timber, for any specified dove lopment work, or for other works mentioned in the regulations.
