TENNIS MATTERS. (Received This Day at 10.35. a.m.) SYDNEY, July 1.

The annual meeting of the Lawn Tennis Association including New Zealand delegates, Baker and Fox, authorised the initial expenditure in preparing the Auckland Ground for tile Davis Cup matches, but did not definitely

agree that the matches be played at Auckland, till the consent of the challenging nation is obtained. Mr Colquohon who was re-elected president, suggested maintaining a substantial balance, which the Association possesses, in view of the possibility of having to send teams to the other side of the world. .He strongly disapproved of the practice of accepting belated entries for the Davis-Cup, except under very exceptional circumstances. A letter was received from the American Tennis '“Association, asking for support to a Indies competition on the lines of the DavlA Cup. The Conference decided that as the international Association did not favour new competitions, the Australian Association could not see its way at present to participate in the competition.
