Maltby’s highly successful comedy “The Rotters” which was staged with overwhelming success at the Garrick", Kingsway and Oxford Theatres, London. It is Mr Allan Wilkie’s set policy to present only proved London successes, and in pursuance of that intention he lias secured the Australian rights for “The Rotters. ’■ The plot has to do with the experiences of the family of one Clugston, a self-made somewhat uneducated man, who uas risen to the middle-class of provincial North of -England. Tie aims at gaining the mayoralty and trusts a good deal to the high repute in which be and his family are held to enable him to secure office. Unfortunately tor him the members of his household are guilty of various lapses that threaten to bring ruin to his ambitions. His younger (laughter is expelled from boarding school for flirting with a choir bov. His only sou is arrested for drunkenness and assaulting the police. Clugston next surprises bis elder daughter in the -arms of his chauffeur. Then he is scandalised by the discovery that Mrs Clugston has kept secret from him during their thirty years of married life that she was a widow when she wedded him. Hut there is even greater shock for all when a revelation is made concerning another member > f the Clugston household. The situations are uproariously laughable, and the dialogues throughout are particularly smart. The company lias been specially selected by Mr Allan Wilkie, and has received most favourable mention wlierpypt if. lias appeared. The box plan 's on view at Misses MeTntosh’s sweet shop.
