He strongly urged the League should endeavour to bring about the Dominions co-operation, in order (hat (he Pacific and Indian Oceana aim Australia and New Zealand should ha ye adequate naval defence. He said it was unreasonable to expect Australia to assume this defence'with her Navy, without (ho help of other Dominions, General Sir John Monasli declared tin 1 Empire must have only one Navy and Army. Each Dominion must hear its own sliar oof the burden. The r.eague of Nations was not going to prevent war. Tt was necessary t<> be equipped. Had the Australians at Gallipoli had onetenth of the equipment of his command in France, the ywould have made short work of Turkey, and been in Constantinople in a month. He hoped pending proposals would provide that the future Australian Army would he adequately equipped.
