PARADISE DUCKS
EMBARGO ON SHOOTING LIFTED. WELLINGTON, June 21. For some time now the so-called paradise ducks have been protected birds, and their destruction has been illegal. The result of this protection apparently has led to a considerable in crease in their numbers in some parts of the South Island, and to many complaints from farmers as tn their graineating proclivities. It has now been decided that these ducks may be shot till the end of the present game season in Waitaki, Otago, and Southland, but no one person will be allowed to kill more than five birds. This provision it is thought will result in a sufficient thinning of their numbers for the time being.
