EDUCATIONAL.

The Hon. C. J. Parr, Minister of Education, attended a special meeting of the Canterbury Education Board on Friday morning, when various matters connected with the requirements of (he distriot in connexion with primary elucation were discussed. Mr E. H. Andrews, chairman of the Board, pi'esided, and welcomed the Minister..

New school at Cobden: The Board was prepared to devote £3OOO to rebuilding the school, i After going very fully into the subject, the Minister sai 1 that as the Board had assured Him that the matter was one of real urgency, he would recommend the Cabinet to find the balance. School Committees’ Incidentals: It was possible, the Minister said, tint Canterbury school committees had a little heavier burden to carry in :onnexion with the heating of schools than was the ease in some other parts of the Dominion. Where there were special circumstances making the burden of any particular committee heavier shun usual, the Department was always prepared. to consider those special circumstances ; .the committee should supply the Board and the Department with accounts, in support of their request for special consideration. . The chairman: That is very satisfactory. Mr ,T. Jamieson: It is more than satisfactory—we have never had that before. The Minister said that such conferences did a great deal of good by eleiring the air. They had learned of hi> difficulties, and ho had learned the Board’s point of view—which was not always found on the files. He recognised that Canterbury had a- good Board,' though, he supposed, it did not satisfy everybody any more than he did.
