The Prince had a great reception en route to and from the Federal capital site at Canberra, where in the uresencp of a distinguished gathering including the Governor and many legislators, he performed the historic -ere mony of laying the foundation stone of the future Federal Parliaments.. Houses on Capital Hill. There was threatening showery weather. The function was marked by a ceremonial display and rr’oieingjs commensurate with such a notable event in the history 7 of the Commonwealth.
On the way to Canberra, the Prince inspected Duntrodn Military College. Speaking at Queanbeyan the Prince expressed gladness at laying the foundation stone of the capita] which offci ■ ed a splendid opportunity to Australian architects. Many thousands of people attended the ceremony, numbers riding or driving fifty miles.
