CHARGE OF MANSLAUGHTER. AUCKLAND, June 14. The trial of Alfred Thomas Percy Dare, aged 23, on a charge of having committed, manslaughter by killing Arthur John iHorton, at Penrose, -,n July 26th, was commenced in the Supreme Court to-day. It is alleged that Dare was the driver of a motor car, which/collided with a bicycle ridden oy Horton, w*ho sustained fatal injuries. The ease for the prosecution had not concluded when the Court adjourned.

A TEMPESTUOUS VOYAGE. AUCKLAND, June 14. The six-masted barquentine, E. R. Sterling, which arrived from Newcastle to-dav; met tempestuous weather on he voyage. During the height of a storm thfe mainsail, mizrdn, and two top-gal-lant sails were blown away. An exceptionally big sea which camo aboard shifted the quarters of the apprentices. The bunks and contents were washed awav. Water also flooded the cabin and <1 id much damage to the ship’s stores. Diming the voyage an apprentice sustained a broken arm and was almost washed overboard. The ship’s carpenter and the mate also received minor injuries.
