Owing to the presence of an American (Gardiner) in the amateur golf final it attracted more public interest than in any year since Travis won in 1904; In a, stern ding-dong struggle, Tolley won. Gardner was two up at the fourth and at'tile ninth lie led from Tolley. At the eleventh square and twelfth lie was two up. He led at the eighteenth; was square at the twenty-third Tolley then led for ihe first time. He was two np at tne twenty-seventh and three at the thirtysecond. On the thirty-fourth they, were square, and the thirty-sixth Toiler was 3 up. He won at the thirtyseventh. Tolley is twenty four years f)f age, six feet high, and weighs fourteen stone. He began golf in boyhood. He was an officer in a- Tank Corps, won a Military Cross was a prisoner in Germany for a "year and distinguished himself in golf at Oxford. Ho is a tremendous driver.
In the ladies golf finaL Miss Cecil Leith was four up on Miss .Joyce Withered at the seventh hole. She maintained it to the twenty-second hole, ghe was there two np. At the twentyninth hole Miss Wehered. won with -two up and one to play. Miss Joyce Wethered is only 111 years old. * She .is the sister of an Oxford golf c aptain, -
