ITALIAN POLITICAL CRISIS. ROME, June 11
Signor Giolitti (ex-premier) has been asked to'form a Ministry. According to the “ Stanipa ” he is bidding for Socialist support, by proposals to confiscate war fortunes and increased taxation on property; but the Socialists have refused to enter the Coalition.
Signor-Giolitti states that his foreign policy will be the same as Nitti’s. Gioiitti’s orgap “ Stampa,” reports that the new Cabinet intends confiscating the colossal fortunes accumulated during the. war and an increase in taxation qn all property. The, new foreign policy will probably cause great surprise. The newspaper “ Popolo Romano” denies that Giolitti is endeavouring to detach Italy from the Allies.

LABOR’S PROTEST. (Received this day at 10.20 a.m.) OTTAWA, June 13. Amiid tremendous applause, the American (Federation of ’Labour annual convention at Montreal adopted a report condemning the Republican Convention nt Chicago for turning its back upon Labour. Mr Gompers < n reading, the report, criticised the various sections of the Republican plants. He asserted that the Labour declaration of the Republican platform proposes industrial enslavement and- abrogation of the rights. The Executive Council directed that the platform be submitted ip id optical form to the Democratic Convention at San Francisco.

The Papal Encyclical permitting Catholic sovereigns to visit Rome, as the outcome of the Vatican’s new policy of participating in Italian politics, will enable Italy to enter into closer relations with other Catholic countries. The Vatican’s pro-Italian policy has angered Jugo-Slavs. It is believed the King of Spain will shortly visit Rome. IMPERIAL RESEARCH.
