A wireless from the tug, Champion, states she is only able to tow tho Havre at the rate of four knots an hour. The tug Hemic has been wirelessed to assist to tow the Havre ,to Newcastle. GAS STRIKE. I MELBOURNE June 11. The first phase of the threatened industrial upheaval has been preeinitated. \ The gas workers in the employ of .the Brighton, W'ilti'amstown and Footscray Gas Companies ceased work this morning. The engine drivers at the works also stopped along with them. Half an hour after the stoppage the gas supplies commenced to fail. Tho manufacturers are falling back upon emergency plants for power. CLERGY’S MINIMUM STIPEND. BRISBANE, June 11. The Anglican Synod has decided that three hundred pounds per annum, with residence, shall he the minimum stipend for married clergymen.
