At a meeting of the New Zealand Superannuated Railway Employees, and pensioners of the Police Association of Canterbury, the following motion was carried. “That inasmuch as the Prime Minister lias expressed himself as being ifi sympathy with the claim of the superannuated railwaymen for additional superannuation allowances, rye call upon him to translate his sympathy ifito practical temps.’ s

The meeting decided to respectfully ask for an incyease of four shillings per day for members superannuated before the war. and since, who have not participated in a war bonus before retiring.

The Rhodos Scholar Selection Committee met at Government House to da v and selected Harold Gladstone Miller, Victoria University College, np the Rhodes Scholar for Now Zealand, an place of H. A. MacKenzie (sou of Professor 11. MacKenzie (son of Profgessor H.\ MacKenzie) who lias relinquished the scholarship in order, to keep the New Zealand Expeditionary Fofce Scholarship which he is now holding in France. Miller is 22 years of age and was educated at Masterton. The only other candidate was a graduate from the Auckland University College.

The question uf a war inemovia) has been exercising the citizens of Christchurch foy sqme considerable time past. At a public meeting some months ago it was decided to erect as a war memorial a Hall of Memories, this being in accordance with the/wish of returned .soldiers.' Spme 'sections of the community did not favour the idea of a Hall, and advocates of a Bridge of Reni eip bra nee over the Avon in Cashel Street and a column in Cathedral Square held meetings and decided to push these projects. AUCKLAND, June 11. Sydney K, Wright, aged 48 years, a Sergent-Major artificer in the R.N.Z.A., was knocked down by a motor bus at Devonport to-night and killed. Deceased was a married man with three children and had been in the forces for 24 years.
