FATAL MOTOR COLLISION.
THE CORONER’S VERDICT. PALMERSTON NORTH, Juno 8. At the inquiry into the recent motor smash at Sandon, whereby A. E. Egliuton was killed and' E. A. Penny and F . Kidman died subsequently from injuries, the Coroner found that Eghn- i ton’s car was on the correct side of the road, and that up to a minute before the collision he had his ligni.s burning. As to the speed of the car. Eglinton had not much pace. Newtlvs ear was travelling, twenty-five miles an hour, and probably more. 'Hie Coroner did not consider thirty miles an horn or a little over, excessive at the particular place where the collision occurred. He thought there was failure on the part of the driver of Newth’s car to keep a proper lookout. If "he driver'had taken ordinary care he must have seen Eglinton’s car lighted and been prepared therefore, he found that, there was some negligence on NewtlTs part in failing to keep a proper lookout. Under the circumstances he would return an open verdict that deceased died from injuries sustained in a motor collision at Sandon on May 20tli. The Coroner added that he would i-kj to remark on the reckless driving which undoubtedly was carried on throughout the country ,and which caused the accidents they read about so often. To his mind these accidents were the result of carelessness and it was necessary that some action should he taken to prevent reckless driving.
