INFLUENZA.
NOTIFICATIONS TO CISASE. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, June 9. The Minister of Public Health stated to-day that influenza is not to be a ) notifiable disease any longer, and that notifications will cease in a week or so. Pneumonic cases and cases of great , severity will bo notified under theii proper medical descriptions, but simple ■’influenza will not be notified. , The serious cases will, in,future, be taken as theindex of the severity ot* otherwise of sickness in the country. Din ing the last wave, the notifications have not been of any assistance to anyone. About one per cent of the cases notified have been serious, and every notification carries a fee of 3s (id to medical men. The cost of this notification plan during the recent wave lias been no less than £1,500. Hon. Mr Parr said that the decision to cease notification of influenza is in conformity vvjtli the practice adopted in other countries recently.
