GREY LABOUR BOARD
CABINET’S PROPOSALS. At last night’s meeting of the Grey Harbour Board, the correspondence included a letter from the Prime Minister, in which Mr Massey set forth the Cabinet’s proposals in reference to the future control of the Board. These are as follows: 1. Grey-Brunner railway to be taken over; an annual subsidy of £15,000 to he paid in lieu thereof, to go in payment of interest and sinking fund. 2. Railway Department to work wharf the same as at Wanganui and other places. v 3. The Board to be authorised to make charges, wharfage, etc. 4. existing 'accumulation of, 3d coal rate, to be paid to the Treasury for interest and sinking fund advanced. 5. A Harbour District to be eonsti- j tuted. Rating powers to be granted to ‘ pay interest and sinking fund, if the j subsidy and rate of coal prove insuffi-j" cient. , 1 6. Legislation to he introduced t give effect to these proposals to operate as from April Ist, 1921. . i The Chairman, Mr Steer, said that he would move to defer consideration of the Government’s proposals to a special meeting. He did so because, ly. three was not a full meeting of the j Board that evening, and secondly, because members were not yet fullj r conversant with the meaning of Cabinet’s proposals.
