DE VALERA’S NEXT STEP, • LONDON, June 7Speculation as to the Sinn Fein Pre- 1 sident’s next step -is raised by. the visit of. the‘Archbishop of Melbourne e (Dr Mannix) to' America., It is -stated' that Sinn, Fein circles in London have irlforfned the Australian Press .Association that it is unlikely that Mr De Valera will pay a visit to Australia. It is rumoured that it is more likely that Mr De Valera would consult Archbishop Muntlix at San Francisco. Probably Mr De. Valera would accompany , Dr Mannix to Rome. IRELAND AND AMERICA. NEW YORK, June 8. The “New York Times” Chicago correspondent 'says that President ,De Va-» lera and Mr Frank Walsh-have finished a tentative draft of a plank which they wiil aslc the Republican Committee on Resolutions to incorporate in the Republican platform. It is stated that there is an under-', standing among the leaders that in the event 'of the Committee refusing to adopt the draft, they will ask that a_. plonk expressing sympathy with the Irish people in their struggle for freedom be incorporated in the Republican platform.

Lloyd George emphasised that Government intended to take steps to bring to justice all persons associated with crime in Ireland. Government ■in this connection was organising the Irish executive, and strengthening police, naval and military forces. In England \ it would probably also be necessary to strengthen the law for dealing with crime. Government intended t<) put down the present organised campaign of murder <arid .assassination.^
