MIG INCREASE IN WELLINGTON. WELLINGTON, June 7. “ I regard the position as very satisfaetory. Apparently we 'have reached the end of the'wave,” remarked the District Health Officer (Dr. Furis) to-day in reviewing the influenza statistics for Wellington District. Dr Faris added that it looked as if the district was going to have a quiescent period now, although the, possibility of further mild waves of influenza during the winter should not be overlooked. For the week ended noon to-day only -(it) cases were a decrease of 355 cases compared with the figures for the previous week, and a decrease of 880 cases on the total recorded two weeks ago.j Nelson with an increase of four cases, was the only district in which a falling off was not disclosed. 'Of the latest notifications, fifteen were listed ns 'pneumonic. . In the previous week there were twentyone cases in this category.

The number of,influenza notifications in the Canterbury Health District on Monday was .44. Of these, 30 were in North Canterbury, Christchurch Jawing ‘27 mild cases, and one pneumonic, Gorton one mild and one pneumonic, Le?ston 2 mild, and New Brighton, Raugiora,* Lyttelton, arid Clarkville one mild ease each. One mild case was repined from South Canterbury, and seven from Inangahua. The bi-weekly bulletin issued at noon on Monday, showed a total of 82 notifications, of which 7 were from Inangahua, 68 jnild and 2 pneumonic from North Canterbury, and 5 from South Canterbury.
