JOCKEY’S DISPUTE

SECRETARY’S STATEMENT (Per Press Association.)

AUCKLAND, June 4

The Sccretarp of the New Zealand Jockeys’ Association, Mr Sheath', jn an interview to-night, said that it had been reported that the Jockeys’ Association, in common with all other unions, was provided with the logal means of advancing its claims. This was entirely contrary to fact, and there was no Jaw in the Dominion that could compel the Racing Conference to meet the Association which had submitted 30 items in the dispute to racing clubs throughou New Zealand, and to the Racing Conference. They refused to meet the Association and even a message from the Premier to Sir Geo. Clifford failed to get the latter to consent. The whole trouble between the Association and the Racing Conference could be easily rectified by Sir George Clifford, who is at present in Auckland agreeing to meet the representatives of the Association for the purpose of discussing the items in dispute. The twenty-three items in dispute with tin: owners and trainers would be discussed on June 10th in AVellihgton. “ We asked Sir Geo. Clifford through Air Massey to have the two lots discuss, ed at that meeting” said Mr Sheath, ‘‘but ho refused, I cannot predict what will happen.” LATER PARTICULARS. The next statement was made by four prominent horsemen to-night that as a result of the tramway union’s latest move a number of jockeys bad resigned from the Association. To-day the President of the Racing Conference (Sir Geo .Clifford) when approached in regard to Air Sheath’s statement said: “I do not want to say anything.”
