AUCKLAND TRAMS

(Per Press Association.) NO SIGN OF SETLEMENT. AUCKLAND, June 4. There is an entire suspension of the tramway services n Auckland. The conductors and motormen have all come out. Tho strike' has continued in Auckland ail day. m Tho present indications are that the citizens may have to do without trams for a protracted period. No disposition lias yet been shown

by the City Council on the one side nor the Tramway Union on the other to come together in Conference in order to arrive at a solution of the deadlock. The services of Mr Pat Hally (Conciliation Commissioner) have now been offered in this connection. ]t is only the conductors and the motormon of the service who ijre on strike. None of the other tramway employees have struck. None of them have been thrown ont of employment. In the meantime, pending a settlement of the dispute, citizens are for the most part walking to work and accepting the situation. With fine weather their unaccustomed exercise is not rendered unpleasant. Should the strike be protract, ed and the weather change to winter conditions, public inconvenience will be doubled. Scores of motor vehicles have been placed on the road, and resident' in suburbs are patronisting them freely in spite of the fares charged, which arc t'ajrly high.
